ilSole24Ore: Menchetti (CSAIA), Scientific Research Market Expected to Reach €164 Billion by 2030

(Il Sole 24 Ore Radiocor) – Rome, Feb. 25 – “Artificial intelligence applied to scientific research represents a market worth around 10 billion dollars in 2024, with annual growth of 49%, and will reach 164 billion by 2030.” This was stated by Pier Paolo Maria Menchetti, President of the Center for Advanced Studies on Artificial Intelligence (CSAIA), during the conference organized at the Chamber of Deputies entitled “Artificial Intelligence – New Challenges: from Advanced Research in Medicine to Cybersecurity and Art & Humanities.”

“The criterion guiding us,” he explained, “is data security according to precise rules, and with this vision the collaboration with the International Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology was established in order to create the first Biotechnology AI Lab, while an International School will soon be launched at the Majorana Foundation in Erice, Sicily.”

According to CSAIA, the AI healthcare market in Italy will reach €3 billion by 2030, yet only 26% of Italian healthcare companies planned to invest in AI in 2023.

“We are significantly behind,” Menchetti warned, “despite the already considerable impact of AI across the healthcare sector, where it is generating enormous acceleration beginning with diagnostics. Italy could save approximately €21 billion annually thanks to the implementation of AI in healthcare processes, with a reduction of 10–15% in costs. If we look at the pharmaceutical sector, generative AI will generate annual revenues of 110 billion dollars thanks to the true revolution it is capable of producing in drug development through mathematical simulation, target identification, and the ability to evaluate side effects in extremely short timeframes.”
