ChatGPT: Privacy Authority Notifies OpenAI of Formal Notice of Alleged Violations of Privacy Regulations

The Italian Data Protection Authority has notified OpenAI, the company managing the artificial intelligence platform ChatGPT, of a formal notice of alleged violations for breaching personal data protection regulations.

Following the provisional limitation order on data processing adopted by the Authority against the Company on March 30 of last year, and upon completion of the investigation, the Authority considered that the elements gathered could constitute one or more violations of the provisions established by the EU Regulation.

OpenAI will have 30 days to submit its defensive statements regarding the alleged violations.

In defining the proceedings, the Authority will take into account the ongoing work carried out within the special task force established by the Board bringing together the EU data protection authorities (EDPB).
