The article proposes a structural alliance between pedagogy and business organization, introducing the paradigm of industrial pedagogy as a science of education applied to productive contexts. The objective is to transform the enterprise into an environment of continuous learning, promoting self-generative training and outlining the innovative profile of the thinking worker.
Industrial Pedagogy and Educational Sustainability
The theoretical proposal is situated within a historical perspective retracing the evolution of the concept of work: from its ethical and social dimension in modern thought to the post-Fordist transformation characterized by flexibility and identity discontinuity. The pedagogization of the enterprise represents a combinatory formula between education and instruction oriented toward organizational sustainability. The company is interpreted as an organic system capable of listening, learning, and regenerating knowledge.Self-Generative Training: Adapting Work to Learning
The proposed model goes beyond traditional top-down training. Self-generative training develops directly from the worker’s emerging needs during professional experience.- it does not define professional content in advance;
- it is constructed progressively through heuristic activities;
- it enhances intrinsic motivation and responsibility;
- it encourages the fluid transferability of skills.
Metacognition and Reflexivity in the Enterprise
Industrial pedagogy introduces metacognitive practices that make workers aware of their cognitive and emotional processes. The enterprise becomes a place of thinking, not merely an operational space. Through communities of practice and dialogical processes:- critical awareness is developed;
- the organizational climate is improved;
- conflicts and hierarchical rigidities are reduced;
- the sense of organizational belonging is strengthened.
From the Reflective Professional to the Thinking Worker
Drawing upon Schön’s construct of the “reflective professional,” the author develops the figure of the thinking worker, characterized by:- heuristic rationality;
- the ability to interpret complex situations;
- orientation toward the continuous search for knowledge;
- integration between individual and collective knowledge.
Case Study: Lazzaroni SpA and Industry 4.0
The model was tested through two action-research studies at Lazzaroni SpA during its transition toward Industry 4.0.Main Results
- 78.4% reduction in overtime hours in the logistics department (from 193 hours to 41.75 hours);
- Significant decrease in absenteeism (from 7,680 to 5,944 hours);
- Reduction in operational criticalities;
- Improvement in organizational climate;
- 68% of workers expressed preference for training focused on communication and workplace climate rather than exclusively technical training.
Conclusions
The research demonstrates that the direct involvement of workers in reflective and decision-making processes generates measurable improvements in productivity, well-being, and organizational performance. The transformation from simple employee to thinking worker represents the core of educational evolution within contemporary enterprises. The model proves replicable across different corporate contexts, offering an innovative perspective for the pedagogical governance of organizations.Bibliographical References
